What is the Cardinal International 5K?

The Cardinal International 5K is a global 5k run/walk. In the past people have ran, walked, hiked, rowed and even skated! All you have to do to participate is run or walk (or anything else!) a 5k on Sunday, November 3rd wherever you are in the world, Simple as that. Oh- and send us a picture of where you are running!

The inspiration for the Cardinal International 5k initially came from the desire to remember and honor my own mom, Wendy Cardinal’s memory whom we lost to gynecological cancer in 2012. But this inspiration quickly grew from being individually motivated to something more. It is a way to bring people together to celebrate, honor and remember those we love, to motivate and inspire each other and importantly to raise awareness and support for gynecological cancer prevention and treatment so that together we can do our small part to help prevent any woman; mother, daughter, sister, partner, wife or friend from leaving us too soon.

What is the Cardinal International 5K? I want to be part of this global event but I can’t run a 5k. Can I still participate?
Yes! Run, walk, crawl or do a three-legged hop to complete the 5k. We just want to bring people together and get moving for a great cause.

If you feel you can’t run a 5k but want to be able to in time for the Cardinal International 5K, there are a number of apps and online resources that can help you reach your running goals! Just search “couch to 5k” on the web and you’ll find plenty of sites to get you on your way in no time.

However, neither payment or fundraising is a requirement. All you need to participate is a pair of shoes, a positive attitude, and a passion for raising awareness around women’s gynecological cancers.

Can I run/walk in honor or in memory of someone?

Absolutely. The Cardinal International 5K first began as a way honor the life and memory of my own mom, Wendy Cardinal whom we lost from a gynecological cancer in 2012. I run for her and to raise awareness for all the mothers, sisters, partners, wives, and friends who have left us too soon. In addition to funding women’s cancer initiatives, a major goal of the Cardinal International 5K is to honor all of these women.

Should you wish to designate your donation in honor or memory of a loved one, a field on the donation page allows you to enter a name, nickname, or title (mom, grandma, etc.)
